Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter in through the narrow gate, for wide the gate and broad the way that leads to destruction, and many are they who enter in through it. For narrow the gate and strait the way that leads to life, and they are few who find it.”
I used to believe not. I used to think that predestination — in my mind, to arbitrarily choose some and not others — would somehow make God unfair. I used to believe that it was we who chose Him; after all He did give us freedom of choice. That was before I studied out what the scriptures actually say, and stopped to realize what a grievous sin I was committing, assuming that I had some kind of right in my lowly created being mind to think that I could judge a Holy, Holy, Holy God concerning His actions in anything. He says, with every right as Creator God Almighty, “I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
So now I can only believe what scripture says — that God in fact chose, elected and predestined certain souls for Himself before the creation of the world. That choice was completely according to His own will and had nothing to do with us in any way, shape or form since “none are righteous, no not one”, “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”, and “the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” There is absolutely nothing in us or about us that caused God to choose us. God has chosen to bestow the gift of eternal life, salvation by the sacrificial blood of His only begotten Son, the ability to become His adopted children, heirs with Christ Jesus, for no reason other than the desire of His will to do so. However, even if we have been so predestined by God to be His children, we still have a choice — we can choose to break the heart of the very God of the Universe, who loves us more than we can comprehend, by refusing His gift; or worse, we can accept His gift and then choose to cast it aside in favor of the world, thereby grieving away His Holy Spirit.
If we have been called of God (and if we have been called, we know it), He predestined us before the foundation of the world to be His children. If we accept His unmerited gift of amazing grace, we are the elect. If we are the elect, we will hear and know our Shepherd’s voice and will follow Him withersoever He goeth. “These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb.” Revelation 14:4.
Read these scriptures and feel the enormity of the gift the predestined of God have been offered, and the grievousness of turning away from it. If we are among the elect, we must die to self, come out of the world, and pick up our cross and follow Jesus daily.
Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Galatians 1:15 “But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb and called me by His grace, to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach Him among the heathen;”
Romans 9:10-20 And not only this; but when Rebecca also had conceived by one, even by our father Isaac; (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;) It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger. As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated. What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid. For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
So then it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Therefore has He mercy on whom He will have mercy, and whom He will He hardens.
Ephesians 1:4-11 “just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him In love He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved
Ephesians 2:8-10 “For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”

Romans 8:29-30 Because whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be of similar nature of the form of his Son, in order for him to be the firstborn son among many brothers. And whom he predestined, these he also called, and whom he called, these he also made righteous, and whom he made righteous, these he also glorified.
Romans 8:33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
