The Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 12:27 “Now you are Christ’s body, and individually members of it.” (If you are a believer in God’s gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ, you are a member of His body, His Church, His Bride.)

1 Corinthians 12:12 “For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.”

Colossians 1:17-18 “He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.”

Ephesians 5:23 “For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.”

Ephesians 5:29-30 “for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, because we are members of His body.”

Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.”

Ephesians 4:11-13 “And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.”

1 Corinthians 12:12-31 “For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many.”

The Body of Christ—all those who have accepted and follow Him—make up the Church, His Bride. There is one body, made up of all believers from around the world, whether Jew, Gentile, Arab, African, Chinese, Catholic, Protestant, Episcopalean, etc. It makes no difference what name is on the building where you worship, or if you worship with fellow believers in someone’s livingroom or in a park. The only true Church is the body of Christ, wherever its members might be, using whatever gifts He gave to equip the saints for the work of building up the Body of Christ in unity, faith, knowledge of Him, and maturity into the fullness of Christ (our being transformed into His image).
