Our Sword: The Word of God

The sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon we are provided in the armor of God. The power of our weapon is directly proportional to the amount of time we spend in God’s Word. Spend only a little time in His Word, you got yourself one of those little rubber toy swords–spend as much time as you possibly can in His Word, and you get a big, shiny, really sharp sword as your weapon to do battle against the forces of evil. The day of evil has come–be prepared to stand your ground.

Ephesians 6:12-18 “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.”

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Matthew 4:4 “But he answered, ‘It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Romans 15:4 “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”

1 Timothy 4:13 “Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.”

Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of your law.”

Psalm 119:10-11 “With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

John 15:7 “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”

Psalm 1:2 “But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.”

John 1:1  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

2 Timothy 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

Psalm 119:1-176 “Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep his testimonies, who seek him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in his ways! You have commanded your precepts to be kept diligently. Oh that my ways may be steadfast in keeping your statutes! …”

1 Timothy 4:5-6 “For it is made holy by the word of God and prayer. If you put these things before the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, being trained in the words of the faith and of the good doctrine that you have followed.”

Job 23:12 “I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food.”

Psalm 56:4 “In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.”

Revelation 1:1-20 “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood …”

1 Peter 2:2 “Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation”

About E.J.

My name is Ellen “E.J.” Lefavour. I am a Christian artist and writer living in Gloucester, MA, where I have been living since God led me here in September of 2010. I am a painter, photographer and writer who, by the grace of God, has lived and worked as an artist for over 25 years, allowing me to separate myself from the World and walk in faith, to a large degree.
