My Father, My Brother

DadI recently had the most joyous experience of my life (outside of my own acceptance of Jesus as my Lord and Savior). My father, in spite of the heartfelt prayers of many over the years, refused to acknowledge the sovereignty of God and His loving gift of salvation through Christ, instead exalting himself in pride, ego and narcissism above God.

God directed me to visit my father (we speak on the phone, but I had not seen him in four years), on my way back from a trip to Maine to visit my uncle and his wife. During the five-hour trip down, I prayed without ceasing for my father, praying that the Holy Spirit would rise up in me and speak the words only He knew would touch my father’s hardened heart, and that if possible, I might be granted the gift of being able to experience my father’s acceptance of Christ as his Lord and Savior. Well that is exactly what the Holy Spirit did, and I praise God with every ounce of my being, that my father is now my brother, and that he has been redeemed from the dreadful path of eternal condemnation he had been traveling, and is now walking in the love and redemption of Christ.

Just as our earthly father can become our brother, through the transforming of our spirit and our adoption through Christ as heirs with Him, so we are also brothers and sisters of Jesus, in our adoption through Him by our Heavenly Father. Romans 8:17 “and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him.”

Matthew 12:48-50 “But Jesus answered the one who was telling Him and said, “Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And stretching out His hand toward His disciples, He said, “Behold My mother and My brothers! “For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.”

We all do the will of the Father when we, in faith believing, accept his gift of salvation for us through the sacrifice of His own Son on the cross, and follow Him. No matter what kind of family we had in life, we now have a huge and glorious family—God our Father, Jesus our Brother, the Holy Spirit who works in us to knit us all together into one body, conforming us to the image of Christ in all righteousness, until His Glorious Appearing when we all get to go to a more amazing family reunion than mind is capable of imagining. We have come together as His body, His Church, His Bride, so the family reunion will actually be a wedding feast such as we are incapable of conceiving, when Christ is united in marriage with His bride. Let us all make sure we have made ourselves ready.

Revelation 19:5-10 “Then a voice came from the throne, saying, ‘Praise our God all you His servants and those who fear Him, both small and great!’ And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, ‘Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the MARRIAGE of the LAMB has come, and His wife has made herself ready.’ And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, ‘Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the Marriage Supper of the Lamb!’ And he said to me, ‘These are the true sayings of God.’”

1 John 4:7-8 “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Romans 8:15 “For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!”

1 John 3:1-2 “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”

Luke 20:36 “For they cannot even die anymore, because they are like angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.”

Galatians 4:7-9 “Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods. But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again?”

John 8:34-36 “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.”

Philippians 2:15 “so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,”

1 John 3:2 “Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”

Romans 8:14 “For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.”
